Backwoods Bloodbath is an independent horror film shot entirely in Wisconsin, based on the Rhinelander-area legend of the hodag.

Synopsis

In 1877, a fierce creature, known as Bovinus Spiritualis (the Black Hodag) was discovered in the northern woods of Oneida County, Wisconsin. To this day, locals whisper of the Black Forest, and the curse of the creature that dwells within. Backwoods Bloodbath is an old school horror-gore flick about six friends who take a road trip to a back country town where a local legend has been feeding off the population for decades, only to find themselves becoming the latest items on the creature’s menu.

Part one of the A&E biography of Ed Gein, who was arrested on his family farm in Plainfield, WI in 1957 with the headless and gutted body of local hardware store owner Bernice Worden hanging in his shed.

When authorities searched the house they found human skulls mounted upon the cornerposts of his bed, human skin fashioned into a lampshade and used to upholster chair seats, human skullcaps, apparently in use as soup bowls, a human heart (it is disputed where the heart was found; the deputies’ reports all claim that the heart was in a saucepan on the stove, with some crime scene photographers claiming it was in a paper bag), the head of Mary Hogan, a local tavern owner, found in a paper bag, a ceiling light pull consisting of human lips, a “mammary vest” crafted from the skin of a woman’s torso, a belt made from several human nipples, among many other such grisly objects, socks made from human flesh, a collection of “shrunken heads” and a box full of female labia.
